Our story
Why Restoring The Lost Smile began
Restoring The Lost Smile Rescue Centre began when Joseph K. Muchai encountered children in Nairobi's informal settlements whose education was being interrupted by poverty, instability, and a lack of consistent support.
What started as a response to immediate need grew into a mission to restore hope through education, care, and long-term community support. RTLSRC exists to help children stay in school, regain dignity, and believe that their future can be different.
Over time, compassionate sponsors and friends joined that mission. Today, the work continues by connecting children, families, schools, and supporters around a shared commitment to opportunity and accountability.
What drives us
Education opens the door, but steady care helps a child walk through it.
RTLSRC exists to stand in the gap with practical support, trusted relationships, and long-term follow-up for children whose futures are at risk.

How support works
Support beyond school fees
RTLSRC builds a circle of care around each child so support is practical, relational, and sustainable.
Education access
We help children stay in school through fees support, learning materials, uniforms, and steady follow-through.
Care around the child
Support extends beyond the classroom to include practical needs, encouragement, and a more stable daily environment.
Family and school coordination
We work with caregivers and schools so support is grounded in real relationships and real accountability.
Progress that lasts
Our focus is not one-off giving. We stay engaged so children can keep progressing over time.
Our values
The principles behind every decision
These values shape how we serve children, relate with supporters, and steward every opportunity entrusted to us.
Transparency
We communicate openly about our mission, public guidance, and how support is directed so donors and partners can give with confidence.
Accountability
Every contribution carries responsibility. We build clear processes around support, follow-up, and stewardship.
Community
Lasting change happens through shared effort among children, families, schools, sponsors, and the wider community.
Child-centered care
We make decisions around the long-term wellbeing, dignity, and opportunity of each child, not just immediate transactions.
